Mark Twain's best

If voting made any difference they wouldn't let us do it.

If you don't read the newspaper, you are uninformed; if you do read the newspaper, you are misinformed.

Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on, or by imbeciles who really mean it.

I've never killed a man, but I've read many an obituary with a great deal of satisfaction.

Drawing on my fine command of language, I said nothing.

The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them.

It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare.

Never let your schoolin' interfere with your education.

It ain't the parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand.

All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes time and annoys the pig.

In religion and politics, people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination.

I have found solace in profanity unexcelled even by prayer.

I haven't a particle of confidence in a man who has no redeeming petty vices.

I can teach anybody how to get what they want out of life. The problem is I can't find anybody who can tell me what they want.

Education consists mainly in what we have unlearned.

There is something worse than ignorance, and that's knowing what ain't so.

Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

I need to work on Wall St.

"Most of us enter the investment business arena for the same sanity destroying reasons a women becomes a prostitute: it avoids the menace of hard work, is a group activity that requires little in the way of intellect, and is a practical means of making money for those with no special talent for anything else."

Richard Ney in his book The Wall Street Jungle

food, water, and medicine, not digital electronics

it is better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it"
-Ben Franklin

the best engine ever

"The best engine in the world is the vagina.
It can be started with one finger.
It is self-lubricating.

It takes any size piston.
And it changes its own oil every four weeks.
It is only a pity that the management system is so fucking temperamental."

Republicans explained simply

Rule no 1 in evaluating Republican proposals and counter-proposals: it's about the taxes first and foremost. They don't like paying for services for the working class. Period.

Atheism

I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours. - Stephen Roberts

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime; give a man religion and he will die praying for a fish. - Anonymous

What can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof. - Christopher Hitchens

Two hands working can do more than a thousand clasped in prayer. - Anonymous

A man is accepted into a church for what he believes and he is turned out for what he knows. - Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful. - Seneca the Younger

I still say a church steeple with a lightning rod on top shows a lack of confidence. - Doug McLeod

Since the Bible and the church are obviously mistaken in telling us where we came from, how can we trust them to tell us where we are going? - Anonymous

financial sense

Never, ever, think about something else when you should be thinking about the power of incentives.
